Wild Announce Signing Of New Assistant Coach

Aug 8, 2024

The Wild have announced the hiring of a new assistant coach, and he is a familiar face to Wild fans. JP Johnson, forward for the Wild for the previous two seasons, will be putting on a new hat and filling the role of assistant coach under Erick Bromberg.

Johnson, from Albertville, Minnesota, is fresh off a successful playing career. He played three years at STMA High School (earning a Conference Honorable Mention award while there) before playing two seasons with the Wild. As a player, he was known for his energy, speed and aggressiveness on the ice, driving him to a total of 131 points during his two seasons with the Wild. The Wild will look for Johnson to bring this same energy he had as a player into his coaching career.

Johnson has been around hockey coaching his whole life, with his dad and uncle both coaching hockey. Johnson brings that coaching knowledge, as well as valuable experience as an ex-Wild player, to the team.

Stay tuned for news and updates as the Wild prepare for their upcoming 2024-2025 season.
