The Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League opened up training camp this past week and the Gillette Wild were well represented. Former Wild GM/Head Coach, Tom Winkler has been on staff with the Havoc for the past three seasons, winning the league’s President’s Cup Championship the last two seasons. This year, along with Winkler, former Wild defensemen Greg Sauers, earned a spot in camp through the teams free-agent camp that was held this past July. Sauers played the 13-14 campaign with the Wild and had 7 goals, 25 assist for 32 points to go along with 25 penalty minutes and a plus 11 rating. He was also a Wild captain during that season. “Greg has persevered to get here, he had an outstanding free-agent camp. He was a great leader when he was with us (the Wild) that year. He is an extremely competitive player and a great person to have on your team. I am confident he is going to do very well in camp”, stated Winkler.
