Brooks Mitzel led the way with a hat trick as the Gillette Wild crushed the Bozeman Icedogs 9-2 in a home game at Spirit Hall Ice Arena in Gillette. Furthermore, the Gillette Wild's offense had a big night, peppering Bozeman with 43 shots throughout the game. The Gillette Wild took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Gage Thompson and never looked back.
Derek Scoggins delivered for his team with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jack Oberg contributed with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists).
During the first period, Mitzel opened the scoring for the Wild with a goal at 2:54 with a helper from his teammate Walters. Mitzel deposited a goal at 4:57 with helpers from Oberg and Scoggins. Thompson put in what turned out to be the game winning goal at 13:22. Eastep netted a goal at 18:58 with assists from Stockert and Feagins.
During the second period, Conti scored a goal at 9:19 with helpers from his linemates, Varty and Walters. Mitzel deposited a goal at 18:58 with an assist from Oberg.
In the third, Boje finally put the Icedogs on the board with a goal at 0:43 with helpers from his linemates, Cook and Charnholm. Oberg quickly followed with a goal at 1:18 with assists from his linemates, Mitzel and Peterson. Rambo scored a goal at 8:07 with a helper from Walters. Scoggins put in a goal at 13:46 with assists from Varty and Stockert. Liner quickly followed with a goal at 15:00 with helpers from Hanley and Patten.
The Wild’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Grogan’s big night as he stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced. Grogan’s counterpart, Thompson, also had a big night, managing to stop 10 of 14, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Gillette Wild’s record to (7-9-1-1).
