Riley Holwegner led the way with a hat trick as the Gillette Wild crushed the Billings Bulls 7-1 in a home game at Spirit Hall Ice Arena in Gillette. Besides, the Gillette Wild's offense had a big night, peppering Billings with 52 shots throughout the game. The Gillette Wild took the lead late in the first on a goal from Riley Holwegner and never looked back. Derek Scoggins chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jack Oberg delivered for his team with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first period, Oberg opened the scoring for the Wild with a goal at 15:38 with a helper from his teammate Truax. Holwegner quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 15:52 with helpers from his linemates, Truax and Oberg.
During the second, Mueller finally put Billings on the board with a goal at 2:11 with an assist from Thompson. Holwegner answered for Gillette with a goal at 7:24 with assists from Scoggins and Fuller.
In the third, Holwegner scored a goal at 9:36 with helpers from Truax and Gerace. Tennant deposited a goal at 14:36 with a helper from his linemate Mitzel . Scoggins put in a goal at 18:03 with an assist from Cirks. Boreing quickly followed with a goal at 18:10 with a helper from Mitzel .
The Wild’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Anderson as he stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced. Anderson’s counterpart, Huhtanen, also had a big night, managing to stop 45 of 52, but ultimately fell short.
