Gillette\’s penalty kill was superb, as Gillette survived multiple penalties to beat Billings, 4-1.
Gillette was led by Tristen Leberknight, who had one goal. Leberknight scored 18:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Gillette. Nick Scherbinin provided the assist.
Gillette excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Gillette kept Billings\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Brown made 41 saves on 45 shots. Gillette got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Gillette also got points from Scherbinin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Adam Maxfield, who also registered one goal and one assist. Gillette also got a goal from Tyler Tennant as well. More assists for Gillette came via Kyle Traux, who had two and Gennadi Zabeline, RJ Yusko, and Stephen Wroe, who each chipped in one.
Billings did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force 11 saves.
Billings was led by Austin Lange, who scored the team\’s only goal. Lange scored short handed 1:23 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Gillette. Jacob Yoho picked up the assist.
Gillette\’s Wroe stopped 11 shots out of the 12 that he faced. Gillette incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Billings ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
