The Yellowstone Quake had trouble finding ways to stop the Gillette Wild, which beat Quake, 7-1.
Gillette was led by goalie Sean Kelley, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Kelley will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.32.
The Wild were led by Mike Magera, who grabbed one goal. Magera scored 14:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Gillette. Darren Banks picked up the assist.
Gillette stifled Yellowstone\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wild kept the Quake\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Sean Leahy made 38 saves on 45 shots. Gillette found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Wild have scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign.
Gillette also got points from Mitchell McEwan, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Banks, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Gillette included TJ McMinn, who had two and Bryce Mitzel and RJ Yusko, who scored one goal each. In addition, Gillette received assists from Brandon Beard, who had two, Lance Pennington, who had three, and Rob Lantz and Alex King, who contributed one each.
Gillette was unable to stop Yellowstone from sending pucks towards the net, and the Quake eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.
Max Doner also scored for Yellowstone. More assists for Yellowstone came via Sawyer Scanlan and Nick Ligocki, who each chipped in one.
The Wild incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Yellowstone incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
